James Herndon papers, 1894-1987.

Genealogy, family correspondence, military service records, and photographs relating to the Herndon family. There are a few photographs of Meyer Street, 1916, showing businesses and studio portraits of Tohono O'odham students and families. These include Daniel Roberts, Margaret Jackson, Jose Mario Flores, who represented the tribe at the St. Louis World's Fair, the Flore family and Ignacio family.

James Prugh Herndon was born in Tucson in 1897;his parents, Frazier and Elsie Herndon, were missionary teachers with the Tohono O'odham. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1919, commanded the 158th Infantry Regiment, Arizona National Guard known as the Bushmasters during World War II, and later worked as comptroller at the University of Arizona and Arizona State Industrial Commission.
